FlexDGrid is a £17 million project which will revolutionise the power network in Birmingham.  The WPD initiative will use ground-breaking new solutions to accommodate more low carbon generation across the city, reducing power cuts and helping Birmingham reduce its carbon emissions.
Birmingham’s network already provides greener heating to locations such as the Children’s Hospital, the new Central Library and the International Conference Centre among others. However, the connection of low carbon generation directly to urban electricity networks can increase the electrical stress (short circuit currents) that is experienced by the electricity network when faults occur. This is known as ‘fault level’.
